Okay, time for a follow-up review.
Just woke up from a little nap, something I’ve been experimenting with these past few weeks.
A short 20 minute nap in the afternoon, somewhere between 3 and 4 o’clock.
Use a dedicated nap track that wakes you up at the end.
Can’t recommend these headphones highly enough, really happy with these, the Sennheiser HD 280 Pros.
Use these for all my napping, I’ll do a separate review video on those.
But today, I’ve got a follow-up review video.
You probably already saw, or maybe you didn’t see the first 6 or 7 sleeping masks that I bought to try to find a good sleeping mask for both meditation and napping in the afternoons.
And then if I have trouble sleeping or if I’m traveling and I’m in like a bright room, I’ll probably suggest some extra blackout stuff that’s not on the windows.
Just a good sleeping mask, I can’t think.
Should have waited until I was more awake.
Anyway, my control for comparing this stuff has been the Mindfold.
I’ve had the Mindfold for a few weeks now, I really like it.
It’s not working perfectly for me, one of the reasons is I think my head is too big.
So if you can kind of see in relation to the outside of my eyes to the size of this, these really aren’t big enough.
So when I’m wearing this, I can kind of feel the foam on the edge of my eyelid right here.
Other than that, these block out the most light of any eye mask that I’ve tried.
They’re not good for sleeping if you roll over and hit this hard plastic and all that kind of stuff.
And I really wouldn’t use these for sleeping, they’re just for naps on my back in the afternoon or doing a meditation.
I like the Mindfold, but I’m going to contact the Mindfold people and see if maybe they have different sizes or I wonder if I can modify this or make my own.
But anyway, I’ve got some other…
This is kind of like my control.
So this is the one, out of all the eye masks, I think this is the seventh one I bought.
This is the one that I like the most for napping and meditation tracks.
But there’s some other ones here that are really popular that I just bought into last week and I want to talk about a few of these.
This one here came really highly recommended from Ben Greenfield.
He is an athletic performance specialist, as I would classify him.
He recommends this thing like crazy.
It is the Sleep Master Sleep Mask.
And I really wanted to like this, but I actually hate it.
And the biggest reason that I hate it is there are no cutouts for your eyelids.
So this rests on your eyes, so when you’re sleeping and you’re in rapid eye movement or if you just move at all, you can feel your eyelids on the back of this, which I don’t like at all.
I like to have nice big deep cavities, so as I’m laying down to go to sleep or to take a nap or to do a meditation, I can open my eyes and it’s complete darkness and then I can do my breathing exercises and then bam!
It’s like massive sleep induction.
Whereas this is a distraction and every time my eye moves or blinks or does anything, I can feel it and I hate that.
The other thing is I wear contacts, so it’s really important for me to give my eyes a complete 100% break in the night time or when I’m resting.
And it’s not good to have the eyelids scratching your eyes, or not, I shouldn’t say that.
It’s debatable whether or not the back of the eyelids can scratch the eyes during sleep, during rapid eye movement.
When you’re constantly 365, 24/7, not 24/7, jeez I can’t think today, wearing something that’s not putting heavy pressure, but just forcing that contact in a way.
Now, pros to this thing, this is single handedly the most comfortable and best sleep mask for side sleepers, hands down.
You can put this thing on and it muffles sound through the ears automatically, but the other thing is, since it’s like a fluid shape, when you roll over on the pillow and you’re a side sleeper, it doesn’t change anything.
You can sleep on your side with this thing.
If you’re a person that doesn’t mind an eye mask touching your eyes and you’re a side sleeper, you haven’t been able to find an eye mask that works for you, this is the one, I’m telling you right now, hands down.
For me, it’s not a good fit, it’s just not my style, but for somebody out there, this thing is probably the best thing you’re ever going to buy.
It’s very soft, feels like silk, but if they would come out with something like this that had cavities in it for your eyes to open, this would be a winner.
This would be the best sleeping mask on the market today, period.
But I just can’t have anything touching my eyelids.
Next up we have, this is actually the second sleep mask that I bought from this company.
The first Dream Essentials wasn’t that great.
This one is, it just says Dream Essentials Dream Life, but I think it’s actually the Luxury, whatever you call it.
This one is pretty good, and from the pictures, it looks like it has this extra nose flap that sticks out.
I don’t know if you can see that.
What it’s supposed to do is instead of having the eye mask fit on your face really, really tight and letting light peek in around the bridge of your nose, there’s supposed to be an extra flap here to keep that out.
And while it sort of works, you can kind of see that I had to pull that out for you to see it.
Well, the same thing happens on your nose or when you’re wearing it.
It really just collapses and it should be a piece of foam or something else.
That said, this is a fairly comfortable sleep mask.
You do get some light leakage in here because that doesn’t work properly.
If it would cinch down like that, you’d be in business.
But other notable things that are really good about this mask, I like that it’s soft, and then also they did a really good job with the strap.
The other Dream Essentials mask that I tested out had that double Velcro strap where it overlapped so that it’s basically thick like this.
And then when you lay down, you have extra thickness there and it’s uncomfortable.
With this one, they did it 100% right.
It’s a single adjustment and it adjusts on the side to where it never gets thicker on the back of your head no matter how you have it adjusted.
So while it’s not the perfect mask for me, the eye cavities just aren’t quite deep enough.
You can kind of see how they’re shallow and I can sort of feel a little bit of eyelashes touch them.
But someone with a small head, again maybe my head’s just too big for all these fucking things, I don’t know.
Females would probably love this.
But I really think, like I said before, if you’re a female and you don’t mind an eye mask that touches your face, you’re going to love the Sleep Master.
This next one was kind of some Chinese brand.
I don’t even know how to pronounce it.
I’m not going to worry about it that much because it’s not a winner.
It’s the SuPoo, S-U-P-O-O, Sleeping Eye Mask.
And I don’t really know what to say about this guy.
Oh, I’m sorry, I was confused for a second there.
This one is like one of the earlier ones that I tested.
I couldn’t tell from the pictures.
But this indentation for the nose does absolutely nothing.
And it actually doesn’t even fit on the bridge of the nose correctly.
If you can see here, I mean you’d have to be like a fucking mini-me person in order for that to do anything.
And you can clearly see straight through here.
So this was a loser in my book.
Pros about this one is this memory foam is really soft and very plush.
I like that a lot.
The eye cavities are deep.
But I just couldn’t wear it.
It’s not for me.
The final one is another Dream Essentials mask.
But it’s very odd.
It’s very different.
I bought this on a whim, thinking that it was kind of, I don’t know the model.
I’ll have to link it up for my Amazon orders once I log in.
This one is really interesting.
I thought it was going to be a lot like the Mindfold.
Because you essentially have this giant open space here.
And I was really looking forward to maybe replacing the Mindfold with something like this.
And while it is wider and I don’t get the touching over here, it doesn’t seal on the bridge of the nose.
So I get light leakage down here.
Other than that, this is one of the most comfortable meditation masks that I’ve put on other than the Mindfold.
It’s actually more comfortable because it has extra width.
I don’t know if you can see this very well.
If you’re just looking for a napping mask or a meditation mask, definitely consider this one because it has a little extra width in there for the eye cavities.
And it really contours the face well.
But it’s not perfect for sleeping.
It definitely has that hard edge profile just like the Mindfold.
It’s not soft.
It’s not going to be good for a side sleeper.
But it might fit you really well for meditations, napping, or anything like that.
Or if you’re a back sleeper, you’ll probably love this.
That’s pretty much all I’ve got right now.
I don’t know what I’m going to do.
I guess I have to keep the Mindfold.
I’ve had this for so long.
I’ve traveled with it and everything else.
But I’m really looking for a winner.
I still haven’t found one.
I don’t know if I’m going to have to build my own eventually or what.
But if there’s something out there that I haven’t tried, I think this is, I tried 7 before, so this is 8, 9, 10, 11.
This is 11 sleeping masks that I’ve tried to fit this head.
And I can’t seem to do it.
If you have any recommendations or if you’ve tried one that I haven’t tried in this lineup, please let me know.
I’d love to buy it.
I’d love to try it out.
I’m in desperate need of a good sleeping mask that I can use as a side sleeper or for meditations or napping in the afternoon.
Preferably it has to have eye cavities where I can open my eyes and can’t feel anything.
Yeah, if you can help, thanks.
