I bought this sauna because it was highly recommended by a functional biologist and it was not cheap but after years of sweating and testing, I can honestly say I’ll never use it again… well until i modify it. In this video, I’ll show you why the heat coverage doesn’t cut it, what I’m doing to improve it so we can give it away after fixing it.
The truth is that performance matters. If a sauna doesn’t make you sweat, and I mean actually seat, it’s not doing its job.

I’ve owned this sauna for over four years and I’ll never use it again after today. Hi, I’m Matt. I’ve owned over 40 sauna brands or models now and Aaron is making me tell you which ones we are getting rid of. He says click baity, never using again because we’re going to give them away.
But before I give them away, we’re modifying them so they actually work better. That’s what today’s video is about. Why I wouldn’t choose this sauna again and I’ll probably never use it given anything else that’s available on the market and here’s why. First of all, what model is this?
This is a Sonore, I think they call it an SR1, but it’s a one-person Sonore. I bought it because my building biologist that was testing my house and training me at the time, or a different one was training me, said that they were non-toxic and that they were good.
So I had already had a couple or a few saunas, but I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t missing out. FOMO is a thing in the health and wellness space because I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned this, but if I think that I can get benefit from something else and I’m potentially not getting it from what I have, that’s enough for me to uproot everything and change or try something else.
And it’s led to me wasting a lot of money, right? But it’s also led to me being extremely educated when it comes to detox equipment because I’ve tried everything. Like that $2,500 footbath thing that I’ll never tell anyone to buy, but I paid $2,500 for the thing. Why?
Because I thought maybe it had merit and benefit. Same thing for this. It has some benefit, but I don’t think it has the benefit that they charge for because I don’t get a good sweat in here. The heat coverage is inadequate and unfortunately for me, I bought this because I was listening to someone else and thinking that maybe it would give me benefit that I wasn’t currently getting.
And I didn’t know any better at the time. I didn’t.
have a way to analyze, you know, does this have enough foreign freight coverage to make me sweat? But I do like what the company stands for. We don’t put out like bad reviews on this particular company, uh, because they do source everything from North America and they do take a stand for things that aren’t imported overseas.
Um, and I, I love, you know, what the company’s mission is and all that kind of stuff. But at the end of the day, this doesn’t work well for me. I have some other videos where I show you some clear footage of a bunch of different, can you hear me?
Okay. I have a bunch of different saunas and this one just doesn’t deliver in that department, right? I don’t think that the company has any bad intentions. In fact, I think they have great intentions.
I w I want to be a lover and a believer in this brand and this product and everything else. But every time I use it, I’m left wondering when I’m going to start sweating more. This sauna will leave me hanging in the sweat department, in the heat therapy department.
That’s not okay. That’s not good enough. That’s not up to par with what I need in order to get the health benefit that I want. I think they’re what they stand for is awesome.
They just have to execute a little bit better in their product models because what you’ll see in here is no side of your coverage, zero leg floor, nothing, right? And no back coverage. So what you have is four heater or two heaters in each corner, eight total, right?
But these are down low. So your knees are on fire and your torso and your organs get nothing. No heater coverage, no heater coverage, no heater coverage, right? It looks like there’s heater coverage, but where do these stop?
It’s from the knee down, right? And then you get the same thing in the back. You’ve got no, no back coverage at all. This is either an anodized or a painted screen.
Nothing about this is super low VOC. When this gets hot, dust accumulates on it. There’s a smell to it. You know, if I really want it to be mean, I would pick this thing apart like crazy like that.
But overall the build quality, I think is great. I love that they source the material from North America.
I love that they’re handmade. I don’t like parts of it. We’ll talk about that in a minute But I don’t like parts of the assembly But I like that they put time and effort into thinking about the quality and purity of the materials So aside from you know, the heater coverage, which I think is Arguably the most important thing.
Mm-hmm other things that people care about which you know, rightfully So our EMF and other things like that. So talk to me about the EMF because you mentioned that earlier Yeah, that’s kind of what convinced me to buy this I had already used other saunas before this but like I said, I hired building biologists to come and test my Residences and teach me about you know, EMF and stuff for environmental factors, especially for sleeping environments and stuff Everyone thinks that it was for saunas.
It wasn’t it’s just really really really easy to evaluate saunas If you’re able to do everything else, so and then they would check my saunas they thought it was cool when they would come over and And so they just kept telling me this this one lady kept telling me that I’d hired that this the sauna ray was the best That you could get you know It was the lowest EMF that you could get and she just assured me and all this stuff Well turns out I don’t think she’s ever tested one because I bought this thing and the EMF in it is sky-high It’s higher than most of the other saunas that I have magnetic fields off the charts electric fields unshielded I know they tout the UL certification and fire safety standards and all this and they have like actual AC wiring junction boxes and stuff in the in the ceiling and everything plugs in with rated connectors and all this Massive amounts of magnetic fields from that.
I mean if we just turn an EMF actually, let’s get one pause this So this is not actually one of my go-to EMF meters I bought this because the group members are buying cheap meters to like test stuff and we got to have a reference point of a Place to compare I Don’t know how accurate this thing is because when you test it with my meters, I mean it’s like crazy
crazy crazy numbers actually the milligauss looks really good all right let’s go get her let’s get a real meter so i don’t usually use meters like this these are super cheap we’re not even in the sauna and it’s already going off but i want to check it with something that i would actually use that i think is reliable um but they seem to give similar results there is a slight discrepancy but as we’ll go as we go in you’ll see immediately you know i get different levels from one to the other but you get 105 volts per meter let’s check electric fields here not as bad we’re also not using a grounding cable and i’m not separated from holding the meters too with a stand but for building biologists to say you know hey you should go buy one of these because the lowest thing out there that’s a bit of a stretch maybe these are grounded out on one side versus the other i don’t know point of body contact is great but at the same time we’ve got other saunas that are the same price that are almost nothing so we haven’t even really heated it up do you smell that yeah well take a whiff what do you think that is what is that well it’s one of two things it’s either dust on the emitters dust on the heater guards or what i think it really is i think it’s this paint on the mesh this is not a brand new model i said i’ve owned this for four or five years which is true um i think the company has improved the sourcing of those materials at the same time i don’t know when they may have switched that but to me it stinks you can put a voc meter in there and you can see that you know the levels go up and stuff but that doesn’t really help you decipher like hey what’s the cause of something like that we’re doing some modifications here that you can see so we’re adding heat lamp bulbs i do think properly ventilated this is still safe enough for somebody to use obviously if you have one i don’t think you should just get rid of it and buy something else that’s kind of a waste of money but you do need supplemental heat in this thing to make it work well
So to summarize, for the price that you’re paying, VOC and EMF, in my opinion, is just not up to snuff. I like that everything is sourced and built in North America, yet the imported stuff even from China works better, tests better, assembles better, no drill or screw gun required.
I did forget about that. The assembly on this is a little bit more cumbersome compared to other things in this price category, meaning the assembly’s not bad, but you still have to use a drill and you still have to screw a few things together. You gotta screw the heaters on, you gotta screw the heater guards on, you have to line up the wall assemblies.
They don’t just slip together like some of the other ones. On one hand, I kinda like that because you screw it together and it’s solid. On the other hand, feedback from customers is if they have to get out drills and tools and stuff like that, whereas they could pay the same money for something else and they don’t have to do that, they would prefer the former, or the latter, however you say that.
The number one thing is the performance. It just doesn’t deliver enough heat to give me the sweat that I’m looking for in order to execute on a detox protocol. So for that reason alone, I’m out. No, for that reason alone, I couldn’t buy one of these again.
It’s not even a case of want to, it’s I can’t, because it just will not complete that protocol effectively enough for me, in my opinion. There’s some people that have different models and they seem to love them and they look to be sweating and stuff, but it doesn’t work that well for me, so I gotta go for something else.
Also, for the price category, you can get something that’s less EMF, less VOCs, and has more heaters, better coverage. So the final thing that we do to it is begin modifying it, because I can’t give this away in good conscience to somebody else when it doesn’t work well.
So what we’re gonna do is add 500 watts of supplemental heat, we’re gonna add heat coverage in the areas of the sauna that is missing, and it’ll work great, we’ll make sure it works great before the next person gets to enjoy it for the rest of its useful life.
